Bailey Buntain who plays Ginny Thompson on Bunheads was kind enough to take a few minutes out of her insanely busy schedule to answer a few questions for us – what a rock star!
BHB: The world is so anxious to know about all of you lovely ladies – tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Bailey Buntain and I play Ginny Thompson on Bunheads. I’m an actress, dancer, singer and couldn’t be more thrilled and thankful to be apart of this show! The combination of Amy Sherman- Palladino, Sutton Foster, Kelly Bishop, and the other 3 wonderful Bunheads has been very special. I grew up in Sacramento CA, moved to New York right out of high school where I was working in musical theatre, and now Bunheads has led me full circle back to California!
BHB: Your character, Ginny, is faced with some body issues in the first episode. This is a real life issue for so many girls these days – what do you hope girls take away from your character?
Yes, Ginny is going through a lot of changes, she isn’t comfortable in her own skin and often finds herself feeling very insecure. I love that part of her for how relatable and real it is. Every girl has felt that way and gone through that (I definitely have!) I hope that Ginny’s struggles can bring comfort to girls who might be feeling the same way to know that they are not alone. I also hope her journey can help inspire girls to feel confident and to learn to love and celebrate what makes them unique and special.
BHB: What has been the biggest challenge so far with the show?
The speedy dialogue! Amy Sherman- Palladino is a smart writer, she doesn’t dumb things down… and that’s why we fell in love with Gilmore Girls! This show is a completely separate different story and project but it does have that fast quick quality to it, with tons of references and lots of charm and quirk 🙂 Getting the pacing that works has been a really fun challenge.
BHB: Can you tell us a little bit about what’s in store for Ginny this season?
Ginny decides she wants to be an astronaut. She quits dancing and goes to the moon. Kidding…. You will see a lot of the dynamic between Ginny and her three best friends; Boo, Sasha, and Melanie. Then as Michelle starts to impact our lives in different ways you will see those effects, and also how that effects our friendships with each other. As we get further into the season you will see the complicated relationship with her Mom unfold and the impact that has on her. She also has a bit of drama with her boyfriend at one point. ….. lots of fun stuff!!!
BHB: What is your favorite thing to do when you’re not working?
Spend time with my family. My three older sisters are my best friends. They live in the Sacramento area and I escape there for most of my off time. “Auntie” is my favorite role, I have nine nieces and nephews (and counting…), they are the cutest, and my favorite little people to hangout with!
